Reading on World Book Day
World book day is a day of celebration for reading books and the impact they can have on children, especially young children. Created in 1995 by The United Nations UNESCO it is now celebrated in over 100 countries. In the preschool we celebrate this special day with reading our favourite books using models of the books characters and art projects to bring the stories alive.
We incorporate reading during circle time where we explore our Cultural learning area. Reading to children is important preparation for early literacy. They learn how books work; how to hold them; that the text is related to the pictures. At the preschool children have easy access to our book corner where books are displayed on low level shelves face on so children can see the front cover.
